,,,,mmmmm.....Smells

Slate.... Been quite a while since I heard this word. Those were the days when a boy or a girl got all excited just with a gift of a carton full of new (color) Balappum.

These days even a X-Box does not bring out such an innocent happiness and gratitude in a boy/girl.

Enjoyed reading your bio. May be I should cut/paste that to mine.

DO THEY PLAY THESE GAMES ANYMORE??

I used to be extremely good at 1,2,3,4 and 7.... Now that you ask, I have not seen kids play these on the streets anymore for quite a few years.

Simple games that need very little resources but lot of people interaction.  No wonder, people relationships in India is going the western way.

Expect the Unexpected!!!

Nicely written and I was wondering what was going to happen next.

After seeing my mother and due to my perennial fear of the uncertainty as a young boy, I strongly believe in a girl's education   Every time I come across a woman/gal who treats education as unneceessary, I try to convince her of the need. My fears were EXACTLY THE SAME as Rajeev's when I got married and I even used the same words.  However, I made sure that my wife did not stay a 12th grader, despite her comments much like Rashmi's, ironically.

Hope EVERY GIRL is educated so that she can overcome the disadvantages facing her in a STILL-male dominated WORLD.

It’s time to act, not panic

Pretty much agree with what you said. The single most important thing the BCCI can do is to revamp the entire setup from grassroot level. Pitches should reflect a variety of conditions, talent should be identified and encouraged/ trained at a very young age, and tackle or minimze regionalism.

In other words, BCCI has to adapt the Chinese or the East German model towards sports with sincerity and all seriousness..

China Moves Forward India Backward

India will be India and like I heard somewhere India is a Toyota while China is a Ferrari.

Having said that, I agree with you on most point. India IS getting its share of high end manufacturing jobs - most auto manufacturers are already operating in India. India IMMEDIATELY needs to focus on the infrastructure, establish and upgrade basic education system, develop sustainable power and road transport systems, Health and sanitary systems, and finally BLUR the caste system - a daunting task indeed, what with the requirement that it be done with the democratic raaga.

Did you forget to mention the irony that while the Commie masters go full swing capitalists, it is the same Commie slaves in Bengal (and elsewhere) who are opposing measures like SEZ? This could well be a planned one with the Indian Commies hindering India's development under planned orders from their Chinese masters - I know...consipracy theory. With our politicians, this is not far fetched.

How Television affects your child

I am so glad to find out that parents in India also have to raise "informed" (meaning argumentative and bratty) kids.. I could not imagine talking back like this when I was 7. So, the Childrens Liberation Movement is global, after all.

Wait till she gets to 6th grade and you are forced to give her a PC with 24/7 internet connection.  She will be like Goddess Durga with stereo headset, cell phone on one hand, Chattin on PC, watching TV, and doing homework at the same time.  you will see a real Ashtavadhani.

To make it short, see your doctor and take preventive medicines for impending blood pressure, anxiety and depression.

Can a man and a woman be just friends?

Answers to survey questions 4 and 6 contradict and reveal the shallowness of the response to question #1.

So my theory is right....

Can a man and a woman be just friends?

***For example, I won't have a guy in my house or car on my own. This stops the hint of an affair developing. I would regard my male friends as my aquaintaince and the term best friend and soulmate to my husband.***

You just contradicted your first sentence in your blog. If you are sure of being PURELY friends with a male, why the condition of not letting him into your car or house ?

That is where I have a problem.  I would differentiate this even further.

Can a man and a woman be friends without getting overtly emotional and physical - YES

Can a man and a woman be friends without ABSOLUTELY any emotional and physical attraction - even covertly - NO

Why marry? Whats the use?

Damn.. I read the blog with great hope expecting to find that ultimate answer - why I married. As usual, like the vast, flat, wasteland of Nebraska, my quest for the answer never ends.

Reminds me of my garndfather who used to talk to me considerably as a  boy.  Neglected or sidelined by all his sons and daughters, his most favorite advice to me "Uppili...don't marry. all these people - meaning his sons/daughters - are idiots and ended up marrying" Of course, he could not stay alone for more than 2 days with out my grandmother - of course, all they did was argue and fight (as long as I remember).

So why do men mary ? I think it is to claim ownership over THEIR women.
